| The pictures below show more and larger views of this Large Boxed Educational 1960 Renwal Insect Science Plastic Model Assembly Kit. The box is not dated but this kit is believed to be from around 1960. The kit is missing the instructions and the illustrated handbook that is advertised on the colorful box cover. This #801:298 Renwal kit was made in the U.S.A. by Renwal of Mineola, New York. It was created in consultation with John C. Pallister, Entomologist, Department of Insects and Spiders of The American Museum of Natural History in New York City. The kit was assembled and displayed somewhere by a young man. We are guessing for maybe a science fair, or with the Boy Scouts or the 4-H Club. There are two hand written signs that we left inside that read: ''PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH SPECIMENS THANK YOU''. The built kit has a turquoise colored display that holds one large opened view of a Field Cricket. There is a sign below it with part names to the corresponding numbers. There are (5) smaller insects with their names (and scientific names) on the base. The names of the insects are as follows: FIELD CRICKET
BLUE BOTTLE FLY
MALARIA MOSQUITO
RED ADMIRAL BUTTERFLY
GIANT WATER BUG
POLISTES WASP To judge the sizes the box measures about 13'' x 9-7/8'' x 2''. The assembled model is about 16'' tall. It appears to be complete and in good used condition as pictured. None of the parts have been painted. From storage some parts have come apart and some smaller fragile parts have broken off (please see the pictures below). Rather then re-gluing them, we are offering it ''as is'' to be glued again by the buyer. The box appears to be in excellent condition. As mentioned above, the instructions and the illustrated handbook that came with the kit, are missing. |
