The pictures show views of this Boxed ©1971 Mattel Vertibird Helicopter Toy Set. The first picture shows the complete set. The second picture shows images around the large box. The third pictures the helicopter, the Astronaut, the liferaft, the space capsule, and the helo landing pad. The fourth shows the control box and the mechanical center section. The last image shows the bottom and battery compartment (opened & closed) under the controls.

This is a really fun toy! There are different later versions of this toy but we believe that this was the first one. There is also a similar old arcade game that was made like this. You control the speed, height and direction of the helicopter. You can fly it around or pick up objects such as the astronaut in a life raft or the space capsule, which are all included. It runs on (4) D flashlight batteries (not included). The toy has been tested and it works well. It takes some practice to fly it, but it does work. There are instructions on the box.

The bottom of the controller is marked as follows:

U.S.A.
U.S. & FOREIGN PATENTS PENDING

Everything that is pictured is included. There is a cardboard insert (not shown) inside the box that holds the parts. To judge the sizes the box measures 24-1/2'' x 5-5/8'' x 4''. The toy is in excellent working condition. There are some spots inside the battery compartment (see last picture). The box is in good condition with some wear from use as pictured.
