The picture shows two views of this Old Asbury Park Boardwalk Casino Salt Water Taffy Pirate Candy Box. The empty, one pound candy box is not dated but it is believed to be from the 1910s or 1920s when the Leiding & Hintze Company was located in the Casino Building on the Asbury Park Boardwalk. The box was most likely saved as a souvenir by someone from their trip to the Jersey Shore.

The box top has (5) colorful images. The top one is of Pirates burying a chest that looks like the candy box on the beach. Also in the image is a sailing ship, rowboat, other Pirates, guns, palm trees, and the shore. The long ends have more sailing ships, shoreline, and Pirates. The two short ends have the candy box pictured with bags of gold coins.

There is no writing on the bottom half. The top of the box is marked as follows:

SALT WATER TAFFY
LEIDING & HINTZE
ASBURY PARK
BOARDWALK CASINO
ONE POUND NET
(ingredients)

The box measures 8-1/4'' x 4'' x 2-1/4''. It is in excellent condition as pictured. The box has light wear, on the bottom there are two small spots and a little paper loss where an old price sticker probably had been.
