The edge is gold but it does not show up well in the picture. The plate is made of either porcelain or ceramic. There is an old ''Made in Japan'' sticker on the back and a bright pink plastic cord to hang it on a wall. The plate has a colorful center with scenes including: People on Horses, Deer, Mountains, People Skiing, Fishermen and a Boat, a Squirrel, a Chipmunk, a Camper Trailer, and a Hunter with a Deer.
