The picture shows a view of this 1940 Olympic Arena Lake Placid New York Real Photo Post Card. This postcard was postmarked from Lake Placid, N.Y. on January 2, 1940. It has an undivided back and a green one cent Benjamin Franklin postage stamp and was mailed to a Dover, New Hampshire address. The neatly written message on the back simply reads ''BEAUTIFUL HERE ''US''''. It is marked on the front as follows:

OLYMPIV ARENA
LAKE PLACID, N.Y.

The post card measures about 5-3/8'' x 3-3/8''. It appears to be in near mint used condition as pictured. The Olympic Arena was renamed the Herb Brooks Arena in 2005. Below here, for reference, is a little more information:

Herb Brooks Arena, Lake Placid, New York

When the United States hockey team upset the Soviets at the Lake Placid Winter Olympics in 1980, bedlam broke out on the ice as the Americans celebrated a most improbable victory. The arena (later named for the team's coach) is also where, in 1932, figure skater Sonja Henie won the second of three consecutive Olympic gold medals. Visitors can step on the same ice rink and visit an Olympic museum in the building.
