The pictures show a view of the (2) 1915 Shotwell Manufacturing Company Hand Written Letters in this lot. These two letters were written by the same man to the same person on the same day on September 24, 1915. They both are about train cars of popcorn that were delivered. Originally there was a check paying for the popcorn with each letter. They are written to O. O. Spotts of Battle Creek, Iowa and they are from, and signed by J. C. Nickelsen of The Shotwell Manufacturing Company. in Arthur, Iowa. One of the letters mentions their Chicago offices and that office is also at the top of the letterhead.

The Shotwell manufacturing Company made many different chocolates, candies and popcorn confections. One of their most famous was Checkers Popcorn Confection, which was so popular that it was the major competitor for Cracker Jack. Eventually in 1926, The Cracker Jack Company bought that product outright from Shotwell. They continued to produce it for many years until phasing it out.

The top of these letterheads read as follows:

CHICAGO, ILL.

Each letter measures 8-1/2'' x 11''. They are in very good condition with age discoloration and some wear on one corner as pictured.
