The picture shows a view of this 1896 Lovell Diamond Bicycle Advertising Celluloid Pin Back Button. This early pinback button has several 1896 patent dates and it also was a part of a large collection of 1896 pin back buttons that we had acquired. The John P. Lovell Arms Company was a gun manufacturer in Boston, Massachusetts and from the late 1880 to 1900 they had also manufactured bicycles as well. The had a line of bicycles which included a few tandem bicycles as well. This pinback button advertises their ''Lovell Diamond'' bicycle. It is imprinted in red, gold, and black on a white or cream colored celluloid background. The back missed getting photographed, but it has a paper insert from the button manufacturer. It is marked within a diamond shape on the front, on the edge, and on the paper insert as follows:

JOHN P. LOVELL ARMS CO. M'F'G'S
BOSTON MASS. U.S.A.
LOVELL ''DIAMOND''
REGISTERED TRADE MARK
PAT. JULY 21, 1896.

THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO.
NEWARK, N.J.
PATENTED
JULY 17, 1894.
APRIL 14, 1896.
JULY 21, 1896.

The pin back button measures 7/8'' wide. It appears to be in near mint condition as pictured.
