The picture below shows a larger view of this Old United States Navy and Army Insignia Advertising Premium Sample Optical Illusion with Envelope. This premium is not dated but it is believed to be from the 1940s during World War II. This is a well known illusion. Because of the shape, one of the cards will look larger, but they are both identical in size.

These premiums would have promoted the U.S. Navy Sailor and U.S. Army Soldier during World War II. The information would familiarize civilians of the insignias and ranks of Sailors and Soldiers. Business owners would purchase these with their advertising from 500 to 5000 sets to give out to customers or possible customers. Prices and quantities are given on the glassine envelope. These were made by The Mayer Manufacturing Corporation of Chicago, Illinois.

To judge the sizes the envelope measures about 3-1/8'' x 5-3/8''. The set appears to be in near mint condition with a small crease at the upper right corner of the envelope as pictured.
