The picture shows this Old Large G.A.R. (Grand Army Of The Republic) Or CIVIL WAR Veteran Celluloid Picture Button. I am not a military dealer or collector but this is what it is believed to be. If it is not and you are sure, please e-mail me and let me know. This large celluloid button has an image of a man in uniform on the front with an American flag draped across the top and sides with a gold background. On the back there is no pin, but it is easily replaceable. There is a paper insert in the back that has a Union label and it is marked as follows:

ALLIED PRINTING
NEWARK
UNION LABEL TRADES COUNCIL
BUTTONS MADE BY
THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG Co. NEWARK, N.J., U.S.A.
PAT. APRIL 14, 1896,
JULY 21, 1896.

The button measures 2-1/8" wide. It is in excellent condition with a spot to the left as can be seen in the scan below.
