| | | The pictures show views of this Small Old Framed Ladies Photograph on Glass. This old photograph is not dated but it is believed to be from the mid 1800s. The studio or gallery that this was made was once at the corner of Elm and Madison Streets in Skowhegan, Maine. We are not experts but we believe that this type of photo is called an Ambrotype. The image of this woman is on glass. Her cheeks appear to be lightly tinted. She is wearing a dress with leaves, earrings, a ring, a brooch pin, and maybe a bracelet as well. The framed photo was most likely in a hard hinged case that closed at one time, but there is no case now. The oval frame is made of a thin gold color metal and it has nice detailed scroll designs. There is an advertising card in the back that is marked as follows: PHOTOGRAPHS, AMBROTYPES, MELAINOTYPES, TAKEN AT WILLIAMS' GALLERY, CORNER OF ELM AND MADISON STREETS, SKOWHEGAN. PICTURE FRAMES MADE TO ORDER. The photograph with the frame measures about 2'' x 2-1/2'' x 1/4''. It appears to be in excellent or better condition as pictured. |
