|The picture shows a view of this Old Salesman Sample Horseback Rider Comic Valentine. The valentine is not dated but believed to be from the 1930s or 1940s. This valentine came from a salesman's sample booklet with the full (24) from this set. The booklet was taken apart to be sold separately. The cover of the booklet is shown but is NOT included with the valentine. Because of the images and wording these are also known as ''Rude Valentines''. There are many other different sets of these that were made and some were used as premiums from Cracker Jack, Checkers Popcorn Confection and others. Some types were sold in old five and dime stores. It is unknown how this one was available.|
The set that this Valentine came from consisted of the following list of titles:
Crystal Gazing Gertie
Beauty At Rest
Would Be Politician
5 And Dime Indian
Ping Pong Polly
Jack Of All Trades
Special Sale Sadie
This Valentine pictures a woman riding backwards on a horse. It reads as follows:
When you ride a horse, it's sad but true we've a darn good reason for riding you for going the wrong way you can't get far. Get a rocking horse and stay where you are.
MADE IN U.S.A.
The valentine measures 8'' x 11''. It is in near mint condition with a light wrinkle near the top left as pictured. There are three staple holes at the top as made from being in the salesman's sample booklet.
