The pictures below show larger front and back views of the (2) Different Howard & Caldwell Clothiers Victorian Advertising Trade Cards in this lot. These advertising cards are not dated but they are believed to be from the 1800s or early 1900s. They are for the same men's and boys' clothing business that was once located on Main Street in Brockton, Massachusetts. They both have the same message or advertising on the front and back. They are marked as follows:

DON'T FORGET THE FACTS.
HOWARD & CALDWELL
ARE THE ONLY ONE PRICE CLOTHIERS
AT THE OLD STAND,
428 MAIN STREET, BROCKTON, MASS.

The first card has a Boston Harbor cene with a sailing ship, a sailboat, rowboats, and more. The caption reads “DEAD CALM OFF NIX'S MATE, BOSTON HARBOR.”.

The second card has an image of a man who was fishing when a dog came and bit him in the butt. There is a “No Trespassing Allowed” sign on a tree, and a man running with a dog leash. The caption reads “A GOOD BITE.”. We guess that the caption referes to both the fish that was on the line, and the trespasser that the dog had caught.

There is more advertising on the backs. These were printed by the Yankee Notion Printing Company of Providence, Rhode Island.

The advertising trade cards each measure about 4-9/16'' x 2-5/8''. The image sides of these appear to be in excellent condition. The back of one has some paper loss at the bottom as pictured.
