| | | | The picture shows a view of this Old Watson Stabilators Embossed Brass Advertising Auto Plate. This plate is not dated but it is beleved to be from the 1920s. Apparently an auto mechanic or factory would mount this plate somewhere in your car when the Watson Stabilators were installed on it. The Stabilators were similar to shock absorbers that worked with the brakes on early automobiles. ''During 1925 - 1935, changes in road and traffic conditions altered the development path of automobile suspension systems. Cadillac improved the ride quality of its cars by reducing the un-sprung weight. John Warren Watson, a manufacturer of ''stabilators,'' said: ''Although springs are almost entirely responsible for the way a car rides, the control mechanism determines what kind of springs can be used.''
