| | | The pictures show a top and bottom view of all (4) Small Old Porcelain Butter Pat Plates in this lot. There are two matching pairs here. These are not dated but they are old. Most butter pat plates had been used in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Butter pats were usually part of a large china or dinnerware set. They were used at a time when store bought butter did not exist. Butter would be molded and stamped with a design and placed on these small individual serving plates. Between the thousands of designs that were made and their small size they have become an excellent collectible item. They also make a nice size plate for Victorian dolls. These plates are square. One pair has a blue gray grape vine pattern with leaves and grapes. The other pair has a light blue design with connected circles. To judge the sizes the larger pair measures about 2-3/4'' wide. These appear to be in good condition with spotting or age discoloration as pictured. These are marked on the bottom (in the order pictured) as follows: ENGLAND JOHN MADDOCK & SONS ROYAL VITREOUS ENGLAND |
