''Named after the fresh water game fish closely related to the trout, the USS GRAYLING was the fourth STURGEON - class attack submarine and the fifth ship in the Navy to bear the name. Last homeported in Charleston, SC, the GRAYLING was both decommissioned and stricken from the Navy list on July 18, 1997. She entered the Navy's Nuclear Powered Ship and Submarine Recycling Program at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, Wash., and on March 31, 1998, recycling was finished.''
