There are three pictures showing a view of all (8) 1953 S.S. UNITED STATES Paper Items in this lot. The S.S. United States was the Flagship of the United States Lines. These items were saved by a couple who traveled on the Super Ocean Liner at that time. The first item is a (24) page book all about the ship. It is very colorfully illustrated throughout. It has illustrations from all over the ship. In the center is a very colorful and frameable 34" (4) page fold out picturing the ship. The next item is a Passenger Accomodation Plan. What this is, is an (8) page or panel fold out that pictures in extreme detail all of the decks and compartments of the ship. It is sort of like a blueprint or map of the liner. Once again, another very frameable item! Next is a marked envelope that the above came in. Only the marked end can be seen in picture #1 below. Next is the 1952 - 1953 Sailing Schedule and price list for the S.S. United States and the S.S. America. On this there are circled dates and prices when this couple traveled. This folds out to (4) double sided panels. There is a marked soap bar wrapper that was saved in picture #3. It has an inner wrapper too. The last three items are Ship Newspapers entitled "THE OCEAN PRESS". The dates included are January 6th, 8th, and 9th, of 1953. Under the paper's title it reads "WORLD WIDE NEWS OF UNITED PRESS, TRANSMITTED BY RADIOMARINE CORPORATION OF AMERICA". The papers each have (4) folded pages which include news stories, other interesting stories, pictures, advertising, comics, crossword puzzle, and much, much more. They made very good use of the few pages they used. Here are a few of the 1953 headlines and story titles: "H-BOMB SPELLS DOOM, TRUMAN WARNS STALIN" "CHURCHILL ARRIVES IN U.S., PUTS EUOPE FRONT FIRST" "RIDGEWAY SEES FORCES OF NATO INADEQUATE" "WAR GUILT ISSUE MAY BLOCK GERMAN ARMY" "MANY LOST IN MAINE WOODS BUT SOME TURN UP IN BEER PARLORS" "U.N. AIR - GROUND ATTACK BLASTS RED POSITION" All of these items for one price! These all range from excellent to mint condition with the exception of the envelope which has wear (and kept everything else clean!). |
