The picture below shows larger views of this 1910s Cracker Jack Pop Corn Confection Advertising Movie Slide Card Toy Prize. Shown are both views of the front, and the advertising on the back. This prize is not dated but it was used around the mid to late 1910s. This is a rare and desirable mechanical prize in any condition. When used these particular prizes did not last very long. They would easily fall apart, tear, or later become so brittle that they were unable to be used without breaking. This one unfortunately is only an example and not in very good shape. The two views of this colorful prize are one image of Uncle Sam and one image of a Sailor Jack and his dog Bingo. This was one of the very first images of Sailor Jack that was used on prizes. The action of these prizes was later developed to what we know as flicker or lenticular images. Images that change when you move them. This prize works by pulling the tab from the top or below. The advertising on the two sides reads as follows: CRACKER JACK MOVIES OTHER DESIGNS – LOOK FOR THEM PATENT APPLIED FOR “CRACKER JACK” ONE TASTE INVITES ANOTHER POPCORN THAT'S CRISPY AND WHITE, PEANUTS THE FINEST AND ROASTED JUST RIGHT, ALL SMOTHERED OVER WITH PURE 'LASSES CANDY AND THERE YOU HAVE “CRACKER JACK” WHOLESOME AND DANDY. SOLE MANUFACTURERS RUECKHEIM BROS. & ECKSTEIN CRACKER JACK AND CANDY MAKERS CHICAGO AND BROOKLYN, U.S.A. The premium movie slide card measures about 1-7/8'' x 3-3/8''. It appears to be in poor condition as pictured. It has water spotting, is separated in several places and it is in parts. It is a rare prize and could serve as an example until a better one comes along. |
