The pictures below show a larger front and back view of this 1893 Columbian Exposition Chicago World's Fair Transportation Building Advertising Souvenir Saucer Plate. Originally there was most likely a tea or coffee cup that came with this saucer plate, but only the plate is included here, which is great if you have the matching cup. This saucer plate has a detailed image of the Transportation Building at the 1893 Columbian Exposition. There is an American flag flying at the top, pennants on poles, and two people in front of the building's grand entrance. The image is surrounded by a wreath of flowers and vines. On the back is a manufacturers crest logo. It is marked on the two sides as follows: TRANSPORTATION BUILDING WORLDS FAIR PORCELAINE OPAQUE TRADE MARK U G BRIDGWOOD & SON ENGLAND The Fair was to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus discovering America. This saucer plate measures 5'' wide. It appears to be in excellent condition except for a small edge chip at the 1:00 position on the front as pictured. |
