The picture shows a view of this Old Unused U.S. Army Camp Hulen Texas Real Photo Post Card. The post card is not dated but it is believed to be from 1940. The postcard pictures rows of Soldiers in uniform with rifles in front of a row of tents. This group of men is the 197th Coast Artillery of New Hampshire. The bottom of the image is marked as follows:

109 197th CA (AA) CAMP HULEN TEX.

The postcard measures 5-3/8'' x 3-3/8''. It is in excellent condition with some light soiling from handling. There is a small checkmark in pencil by one of the Soldiers. Below here is a bit of reference information found about the 197th Coast Artillery of N.H.:

In 1940 the United States War Department took over the base as an Anti-Aircraft Replacement Training Center because the camp's location permitted impact areas for spent projectiles in the surrounding bays. The base provided for antiaircraft training for national guard units from across the country (the Thirty-sixth Division had moved to Camp Bowie in Brown County).

By September, 1940, five out of every ten anti- aircraft artillery units called into federal service would train at Camp Hulen. The 203rd Missouri National Guard regiment, the 197th Coast Artillery of New Hampshire, and the 211th from Massachusetts were among the first units to arrive.
