The picture shows this Original Old Steam Ship Race Photograph. The picture shows the color photograph. It is matted in a frame but I did not scan either. Looking at this photo you can imagine the sounds of the water churning in the paddle wheels and the loud whistles blowing! You can almost smell the black smoke as it pours out the stacks of these great ships! Both names on the steamships can be read from the photo. They are: HOMESTEAD of Pittsburgh, Pa. and WM. LARIMER JONES It is highly possible that this was taken on one of the rivers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The background could probably be identified. There is a red sticker on the back which reads: Keystone Picture Frame Co. 640 Fifth Ave. Pittsburgh 19, Pa. Phone Atlantic 1-3294 On the paper on the back of the frame there is a hand written message in pen. It reads: Personal Property Of (?????) who was in the pilot house of the Homestead during this last steamboat race in 1953. The name was blackened out with black marker. I can't help but wonder who won this last race. The entire framed photograph measures 12-3/4" x 11-3/4" and the photo itself is at least 8-1/4" x 7-1/4". It is in excellent condition. This is a nice piece of steamboat history! |
