| | | The first picture below shows a larger view of this 1960s Hippy Sippy Drug Candy Advertising Premium Tin Pin Back Button. The second picture is shown for reference only and it is NOT included here. It is a 1960s photograph that was taken in a store at a counter showing the Hippy Sippy candy containers and some of the prize pinback buttons that came with them. The pinback button included here has a colorful design with a young woman sucking on the candy and it reads ''HIPPY SIPPY''. This same image can be seen on the candy packaging or box in the lower left corner of the photo shown below. The pinback button measures 1-1/4'' wide. It appears to be in near mint to mint condition as pictured. The back is clean and a silver in color. Below here, for reference is some information about the 1960s Hippy Sippy candy: Hippy Sippy From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Hippy Sippy was a candy introduced in the late 1960s. It derived its name from its packaging: small multi colored pellets contained in a toy package syringe. The intent was to mimic drug usage in the hippie culture, primarily through the toy syringe being a reminder of heroin, and secondarily through the multi colored candy being a reminder of uppers and downers. Included was a button with a phrase including “Hippy Sippy Says I'll Try Anything!”, “Hippy Sippy says LOVE”, “Hippy Sippy says How Does This Grab You?”, “Hippy Sippy Says Hippy Sippy Lives”, and “Hippy Sippy Says Bug Off”, to name a few, that was printed on them. Hippy Sippy was immediately controversial, and outraged many people. It was promptly removed from the market, but is still remembered due to its cultural shock value. |
