| | | The pictures show views of this Large Old Drake's Cakes Advertising Cardboard Store Display. The display is not dated but it is believed to be from the 1920s or 1930s. It is imprinted in brown, orange, and gold on off white cardboard stock. Shown is the front of the assembles display, the back, the bottom with Grocer instructions, and both sides. The single piece unit forms stepped shelves to display and sell Drakes Cakes. Both sides and the front of the shelves picture an older version of their advertising character goose with a chef hat. The front and sides are marked as follows: CHOOSE DRAKE'S CAKE PURE FOOD ALWAYS FRESH - ALWAYS GOOD The back that faces the Grocer reads as follows: Mr. Grocer: THIS STAND WILL MAKE MORE SALES MORE PROFITS WHEN PROMINENTLY DISPLAYED ON YOUR FRONT COUNTER FILLED ONLY WITH DRAKE'S CAKES The bottom pictures the assembled display and also mentions: FOR EXCLUSIVE USE OF DRAKE'S CAKES The display will be mailed flat, but assembled it measures 12-1/2'' x 16'' x 18''. It is in very good condition as pictured with some spotting, a few creases, and some tape on the inside frome being assembled. Here is a little information on Drakes: Drake's has been providing the Northeastern United States with delicious snack cakes for over a century. Newman E. Drake baked his first pound cake in Brooklyn in 1888 and sold them by the slice. Drake's popularity grew and the Drake's brand with it; supplying such favorites as Drake's Coffee Cake, Devil Dogs, Yankee Doodles and Ring Dings. |
