| | | The picture shows a front and back view of this Old Canadian National Exhibition Toronto Advertising Souvenir Tray. The tray is not dated but it is believed to be from the early 1900s. There is a flower and leaf border around the edge of this metal heart shaped souvenir tray. In the center is a raised image of an exhibition building, a large water fountain, and many people. The Manufacturers Building pictured was built in 1902 and destroyed by fire in 1961. It was replaced by the Better Living Centre. The front and back of this tray are marked as follows: CANADIAN NATIONAL EXHIBITION, TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FINE ART CANADA MADE IN JAPAN The tray measures about 4-3/8'' x 4-1/4''. It is in excellent condition as pictured. Below here is some history found on the Canadian National Exhibition: ''The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) was founded in 1879 on a community need to encourage the development of agriculture, manufacturing, industry, commerce and the arts. Over the past 128 years the CNE has grown to be the largest annual fair in Canada and the fifth largest in North American with an average attendance of 1.3 million visitors annually. Unique in its unparalleled diversity of entertainment, the CNE offers fun for the entire family. For many families it is a tradition. It is Toronto’s unofficial "Summer Celebration".'' |
