From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

United States Equestrian Federation, Inc.
Abbreviation: USEF
Motto: All Things Equestrian
Formation: January 20, 1917
Type: NGB
Purpose: National Governing Body for equestrian sport in the United States
Headquarters: Lexington, Kentucky
Region served: United States
Membership: over 90,000

The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) is the national governing body for most equestrian sports in the United States. It began on January 20, 1917 as the Association of American Horse Shows, later changed in 1933 to the American Horse Shows Association (AHSA). In 2001, the organization changed its name to USA Equestrian (USAE) and, in 2003 it merged with the United States Equestrian Team (USET) to form the present organization.

Competitions governed by the USEF include dressage, driving, endurance riding, eventing, hunt seat equitation, hunter, jumper, paralympic, reining, roadster, saddle seat equitation, vaulting, and western riding competition including equitation, western pleasure, reining, trail, and related events.

The organization also governs breed shows held in the United States for the Andalusian, Lusitano, Arabian, half-Arabian, Anglo-Arabian, Connemara, Friesian, Hackney, Morgan, American Saddlebred, National Show Horse, Paso Fino, Shetland, and Welsh breeds.

The USEF keeps track of yearly points, accumulated at individual horse shows throughout the year, and gives awards based on these points at the end of the year. Horse shows governed under the USEF are given an AA, A, B, or C rating. Shows with an AA rating are the most prestigious and often offer the most prize money, whereas shows with a C rating are more local, usually awarding less prize money. Governing bodies working under the USEF include:

United States Hunter/Jumper Association (USHJA)
United States Dressage Federation (USDF)
United States Eventing Association (USEA)

Competitions recognized by the USEF must follow its rules and bylaws.

All American Futurity
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

All American Futurity
Location: Ruidoso Downs Race Track in Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico
Inaugurated: Labor Day, 1959

The All American Futurity is a race for two year old American Quarter Horse racehorses run at Ruidoso Downs Race Track in Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico on Labor Day. It is the last leg of the AQHA Triple Crown that has only been won once, by Special Effort in 1981. A $4 million bonus was once offered to the horse that could sweep all three Triple Crown races. It started in 1959, with a purse of $129,686.85. It has always billed itself as the richest race in American Quarter Horse racing, In 1978, the purse was over a million dollars and in 1982, the winner's portion of the purse totaled over a million dollars for the first time. The 2015 version of the race will have a purse of $3,000,000 with the winners share being $1,500,000, making it one of the richest races in North America. The track record was set at this race in 2006, when No Secrets Here finished in 20.886 seconds for 440 yards, for a speed of 43.091 miles/hr. That remains the world speed record for racehorses. Refrigerator holds the record for 400 yards with a time of 19.39 seconds in 1990.
