The pictures show views of this ©1939 Chicago Illinois Advertising Souvenir Fishlove Novelty Gag Joke Book. The book was created by H. Fishlove & Company of Chicago, Illinois. The card in the back is ©1939, but it was made sometime after the beginning of World War II. To make this joke book a U.S. Army & Air Force hard back book was hollowed out. The inside cover pages have world maps with the ranges of U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force planes as well as Strategic Combat Command Bases. Applied to the book is a fake cover that pictures race horses and jockeys racing on a track, a riding crop or whip, and a good luck horse shoe. The fake title is ''HOW TO CLEAN UP ON HORSES - CONFIDENTIAL DOPE'' by Carol A. Roberts. The inside back cover card pictures a Street Sweeper or Cleaner with his broom and garbage can on wheels. Taped to that card is a miniature broom and an old red painted metal Tootsietoy Cracker Jack prize shovel. That back or inside card is marked as follows: SOUVENIR OF CHICAGO, ILL. NO. 876 HOW TO FOLLOW HORSES ©1939 H. FISHLOVE & CO. REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. MADE IN CHICAGO, U.S.A. The closed book measures about 4-3/4'' x 7-1/4'' x 3/4''. This old joke book appears to be in excellent used condition as pictured. There is some wear and a small water spot on the front cover. |
