| | | The picture shows a a front and back view of this 1964 - 1965 New York World's Fair Advertising Souvenir Neutron Irradiated Mercury Dime. These encased coind were made available as souvenirs at the 1964 - 1965 New York Worlds Fair by the Atomic Energy Commission. In 1964 the U.S. silver dimes had stopped being produced. People were able to use theirown silver dimes and that is why this one has a 1935 (unknown mint mark) Mercury dime. The coin was made radioactive at the World's Fair with a harmless low level of radiation and encased in the imprinted blue plastic holder. The blue token section has the atomic symbol and is marked on the two sides as follows: N.Y. WORLD'S FAIR 1964 - 1965 NEUTRON IRRADIATED DIME ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION UNITED STATES OF AMERICA The token measures 1-7/8'' wide. It appears to be in excellent condition with an old patina on the silver coin as pictured. |
