The pictures below show larger front and back views of all (17) Different Old Domino Sugar, Nabisco Cereal, & Cracker Jack Sailing Ship Premiums & Prizes in this lot. These prizes had come from my former friend, now deceased, John (Wally) Walworth. He was a designer and Artist for Gold Premium International working for both Sam Gold and Gordon Gold. In his earlier years he was a cartoon Animator, until he turned his attention to creating small toys. Over many years he had created or designed many hundreds of premiums, prizes, packages, boxes and promotional materials, for many different products and companies. Anyway, this lot consists of an example of what he termed as some of his “reused” or “recycled” premium ideas. He had created sugar packet designs for Domino Sugar. One set had (7) different sailing ships, pictured and included here. The back side has a short description or History of the ship. He had trimmed three edges of these packets so that he could show both sides at once. In the order pictured, the (empty) packets have the following ships: AMERICA – Schooner Yacht THE CONSTITUTION – U.S. Frigate THE GREAT REPUBLIC - “Clipper” THE CHARLES W. MORGAN – Whaler THE FLYING CLOUD - “Clipper” HMS BOUNTY – Armed Transport INTREPID – Sloop Yacht With the ship theme created, he went and created a series of (4) Nabisco Shredded Wheat Cereal prize Ship In Bottle plaques. The size was created for use in the Shredded Wheat cereal boxes. These have a wood grained card stock back with the ship’s name below, and a colorful vacu – formed ship inside of a clear plastic covering. There is a small hole at the top (as made) to hang them up. The ships that he used for this set included the following: VIKING SHIP – 1000 THE “SANTA MARIA” - 1492 “MAYFLOWER” - 1620 “OLD IRONSIDES” - 1812 Still keeping with the same sailing ship theme, Wally then took the same idea in 1960, and created a smaller Ship In Bottle series of (6) for use in Cracker Jack boxes. Once again, like the sugar packets, the back side has a short description or History of the ship. They have a printed card stock back, with a different woodgrain backing, with the ship’s name on a gold plaque, below a colorful image of the ship. These were made by The Makatoy Company of Chicago, Illinois, and the Cracker Jack number is Z-1235. This complete series has the following ships:VIKING SHIP – 1000 THE SANTA MARIA - 1492 MAYFLOWER – 1620 BONHOMME RICHARD - 1779 CONSTITUTION – 1812 LIGHTNING - 1854 I am selling off my large, lifetime Cracker Jack collection. This is a great opportunity, or chance for you to be the proud owner of some nice old Cracker Jack items, including many Rare, one of a kind, Art pieces from Cracker Jack, or their toy prize History, plus the included prizes here. All (3) of these complete John (Wally) Walworth ship series premiums or prizes for one price! To judge the sizes the center Nabisco ships measure about 3-5/8'' x 2-1/2''. These all appear to be in excellent or better condition as pictured. As stated above, the sugar packets were trimmed, by the Designer, on three sides so that the two sides can be seen at once. |
