| | | The picture below shows a larger view of this Old Cobalt Blue Glass Antique Marking Pen with Labeled Wooden Case. The label states that the pen has a January 15th, 1867 patent date, but the exact year that it was made is unknown. It was difficult to show the pen, but the 1-7/16'' writing end of this pen is clear glass, and the rest is a colorful cobalt blue glass. The dip or dipping glass pen was made to mark cloth with indelible ink. Because it is made of glass, it is easy to wipe off with a damp cloth. The label on the wooden tube case has detailed instructions on its use. It also states that it can be used with any indelible ink, but they recommend using ink from Payson’s Indelible Ink Company of Northampton, Massachusetts. It is marked on the two sides as follows: The cobalt blue glass marking pen measures about 5-3/16'' long. It appears to be in mint condition, and the wooden case with paper label is excellent with some wear from handling as pictured. |
