The picture shows a view of this Old Painted Novelty or Carnival Prize Monkey Toy Figure. It is not dated but believed to be from the 1930s. It was most likely used as a carnival or Fair prize but it could have also been sold in an old five and dime store. It is marked ''JAPAN'' on the back. The hat, head, and body are one piece. It appears to be made of some compressed material. The hands and feet are made of plaster and are molded right on the pipe cleaner legs and arms. Animal fur (probably rabbit) covers the bottom of the body section. In the hat is an elastic string with a metal ring so he could bounce around like a puppet. The monkey measures about 3-1/2'' tall. It is in mint as made condition as pictured.
