The picture shows both sides of this Old Egyptienne Straights Cigarette Card and Both Sides of the Original Envelope. The card is the letter "R" Card for cross stitch sewing. I would guess that there is a set of (26) of these to make up the alphabet, but I have not seen another before. Included is the original envelope that reads: FOR THE WIVES, SWEETHEARTS AND DAUGHTERS OF THE SMOKERS This is interesting because it is assuming that only men smoke and only females did cross stitch work. It is a fine example of an early sexist or now politically incorrect premium. The instructions are on the back of the card and the back of the envelope reads: FACTORY NO. 2153 3d DIST. STATE N.Y. The card measures 1-15/16" x2-9/16" and the envelope is slightly larger. It is not dated but old. The card appears to be in mint condition and the envelope has a few spots, a number 2 written, and wrinkles as can be seen in the scan. |
