The pictures below show larger views of this Portland Press Herald Newspaper Carter Bros Jewelry Metal Printing Plate. The first picture below shows the negative printing plate as you look at it. The second picture shows the engraved back. The third picture is a digitally reversed image that the printed image would look like. This printing plate is not marked that it is from the Portland Press Herald newspaper in Maine, but it came from a batch that was from that newspaper, where many of the plates were marked as such. We do not know the date or dates that the image was printed in the newspaper. The print image shows an interior view of the Carter Brothers Jewelry store in 1880 with glass counter display cases, shelving, tin ceiling, gas lighting, and more. In the 1880s Carter Brothers existed at 521 Congress, corner Casco Street in Portland, Maine. They were dealers in diamonds, watches, jewelry, and sterling silverware, also watch and jewelry repair. The printing plate is engraved on the back as follows: PORTLAND = = CARTER BROS = = = 1880 The printing plate measures 5-3/8'' x 3-7/8''. It appears to be in excellent condition used as pictured. |
