The picture shows a view of this Old New York City Bowery Magic Lantern Glass Photograph Slide. The image is of a Victorian scene with horse drawn trolleys, an elevated railway train, wagons, buildings, and people. The building above the train in the center still exists today. The photograph slide is not dated but it is believed to be from the late 1800s or the early 1900s. The side of the ''Harlem'' horse trolley in the center is marked: City Hall - Central Park - Harlem Bridge The right trolley reads: Grand Cen(tral Station ?) Some signs on the buildings can be read. They are as follows: Tode Bros Importers Steam Printing R. H. Gerstle & Bro. S. I. Herschmann. Furniture & Carpets 290 Bowery (on wagon) S. I. Herschmann. Furniture 290 (on building) The slide is marked as follows: N.Y. City On The Bowery There is a label on the edge of the slide that reads: A. T. Thompson & Co., Manufacturers, 25 Bromfield St., Boston, Mass. The slide measures 4'' x 3-1/4''. It appears to be in mint condition as pictured. Some paper on the edge has some wear from handling. |
