The pictures below show larger views of the inside and outside of this Old United States U.S. Army Air Corps Pilot Wings Sweetheart Girey Glitter Make Up Mirror Compact. This cosmetic compact is not dated but it is believed to be from the 1940s during World War II, and sent home to a Pilot’s Sweetheart. The name on the compact and on the larger pads is “GIREY”. Looking at the first picture, the compact activates or opens with a spring by pushing a button at the bottom right (left image). At the top right is a swivel loop to attach it to a chain, or a purse. On the door is a small U.S. Army Air Corps Pilot wings emblem. The front and back are covered with silver glitter which is under a clear coating. It does not come off. When you push the button, the main door opens, revealing (picture #2) a beveled mirror at the top, and two make up pads. The top one still has all of its make up under the pad. The bottom one is marked “GIREY” on the named pad. Under it is another door. On that metal door is an engraved crest, also with the name “GIREY”. That one opens to an empty compartment. This Sweet Heart cosmetic compact measures about 2'' x 3-1/4'' x 1/2''. It appears to be in excellent or better condition. There are only a few small spots on the mirror as pictured. |
