Because of the metal shortages from World War II, These were cleverly manufactured from the round scrap tin metal holes from Ball or Mason canning jar lids. It has illustrated instructions on how to hold it to make a clicker or clicking noise or sound. It is marked on one side as follows: THE NOISY
