The pictures below show larger views of this Early Reliable Confections Oriental Pop Corn Confection Advertising Premium Honeycomb Paper Hand Held Fan. Shown is both sides of the opened fan, the closed fan, and an image of the small paper label that is on one end. The folding fan is not dated but it is from the early 1900s. It was used as an advertising premium by Reliable Confections (later became The Cracker Jack Company in 1922). These type of folding fans were used in many of the company’s confections as prizes or premiums. They are made of thin colored paper and wooden sticks or handles. Some were included inside or on pop corn or candy packages, and others were handed out as in store premiums. Not many were marked, like this one was. There were different types and sizes that were made and used from the early 1900s to World War II and even after they were made in Occupied Japan. The smallest fans were used as prizes inside boxes of Cracker Jack, Checkers, and Chums pop corn confections. The paper label on this folding fan has the Reliable Confections logo and it reads as follows: ORIENTAL POPCORN PURE AND DELICIOUS R RELIABLE CONFECTIONS TRADE MARK I am selling off my large, lifetime Cracker Jack collection. This is a great opportunity, or chance for you to be the proud owner of some nice old Cracker Jack items, including many Rare, one of a kind, Art pieces from Cracker Jack, or their toy prize History. The closed fan measures about 8-7/8'' tall. It appears to be in excellent or better condition as pictured. There is a rubber band that was used on the wooden sticks just to hold it open when it was photographed. |
