The picture below shows larger front and back views of this Large Engraved 1954 Greater Hartford Red Feather Community Bronze Award Medal. There is only one award medal being offered here and the two sides are shown. This award may be from Hartford, Connecticut, but we do not know for sure. This medal features a feather and eight stars on one side, and a laurel wreath on the other. It is marked on the two sides as follows: RED FEATHER COMMUNITY AWARD SYMBOL OF SERVICE PRESENTED TO EDWARD W. FRISBIE (engraved) FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF GREATER HARTFORD 1954 In 1945, the red feather was chosen as the national symbol for Community Chests, a forerunner of the modern United Way. Red feather pins were awarded to donors and worn proudly as a sign of a commitment to their community. The Red Feather Awards is an annual cultural and artistic event that recognizes, distinguishes, celebrates, and promotes individuals who have dedicated their time and energy in portraying our cultural heritage through films, music, comedy, and fashion. The award medal measures about 3'' wide. It appears to be in excellent unpolished condition. There is some water spotting as pictured. |
