The picture shows a front and back view of the (2) Large Old Hand Carved Wood Hair Combs in this lot. The year that these combs were carved is unknown but they are old. They may be combs for people or animals. They are believed to be from an African country but that is unknown for sure. Perhaps you can identify them and let us know. Each of these are carved from a single very hard piece of wood. They each have similar line and circle designs. What these may mean are also unknown. Each has a center hole that may have connected it to a cord or leather strap. One of the two is a little longer. It measures 9'' long. These appear to be in excellent condition. There is one cracked tooth but the section is still connected (see far right image left bottom tooth). Most of the teeth are very sharp but there are a few that are chipped. What looks like a crack in one handle is not a crack. It is a cut or gouge was made in the carving.
