| | | The picture shows both sides of the (2) Large 2-sided Ink Blotter Panels in this lot. I am not sure what to call these. They appear to have been used as ink pen blotters or used for practice writing before documents were signed. Since the dates within these are from the 1830's, the pens that were used must have either been quill pens or other types of dipped pens. These panels may have been on the inside of a ledger or log book. There may be some great autographs here I don't know, certainly a lot of people used these. On the second picture I have circled in red a signature of a Martin Van Buren. I do not know if this was the President or not but a little checking I found that he was President at this time. There is a date below that appears to read 1837. If you need a closer scan please let me know. I had purchased these years ago because they were so interesting. I had intending on matting and framing them. I never got around to doing that and here they are, up for auction for someone else to enjoy. Each panel measures 9-5/8" x 14-1/2". They are in very good condition considering they are paper items around 170 years old. A handwriting expert would most likely have a great time with these! |
