| | | The pictures show views of this Old Japanese Flying Butterfly Novelty Post Card. It is not dated but it is old It required a one cent postage stamp to mail it. The first picture shows the front and back cover of the folded envelope. The front side has a place for an address, some Japanese writing and the words ''JAPANESE NOVELTY''. The back pictures a scene with a Japanese woman with a fan in one hand and the postcard in the other. When you open the first fold it is marked ''FIFFI QUEEN OF THE AIR'' with the directions. It is also marked ''STRAUBE BROS., IMPORTED NOVELTIES, 1205 CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, DETROIT, MICH.''. Opening the next fold reveals more Japanese writing and a very colorful paper butterfly inside. The last two pictures show both sides of the Fiffi butterfly. When sending this old postcard you would first wind the rubberband activated propeller. When the recipiant opens it it would take flight. By the butterfly it is also marked ''MRS. F. S. PERKINS, AGENT, 10 BROWN ST., SALEM, MASS.''. The entire (closed) post card measures 6-5/8'' x 4-5/8''. It is in good condition with some wear as pictured. One inside corner has separated but it is included. The rubber band on the butterfly is dried and no good but a new one can easily be attached if desired. |
