The picture shows two views of this Old Blue Pottery or Stoneware Pie Bird Figure. The pie bird is not dated but it is believed to be old. It is not marked and the maker is unknown. The bird looks like a crow and it has a nice rich blue color. These are used like a chimney in the center of a pie when baking to let off steam so the pie doesn't boil over when baking. The steam would go up through the open bottom and out the mouth. Some of these probably whistle like a tea pot but we don't think that this one is made for that. This pie bird measures 4-1/8'' tall. It is in mint condition as pictured.
