Womans Relief Corps   Medal   Military   Historical
The picture shows both sides of both parts to this 1883 Womans Relief Corps Medal. There should be a ribbon between and connecting the two but it is not present. There is a bar on the back of the top pin section that held the ribbon. In the center of the medal it has a raised image of a sailor and soldier shaking hands with a woman and child below. This is the same image as was on several Grand Army Of The Republic (G.A.R.) items I have sold already. Also there are two flags and all is within a ring of stars. The front and back read:

Womans Relief Corps 1883
Patented May 4, and Sept. 28, 1886

It appears to be made of bronze. To judge the size of the parts the bottom section (counting the loop) measures about 1-3/4" tall. The two parts here are in excellent - near mint condition but like I said earlier the ribbon is missing. The ribbon I had seen on another was red/white/blue.
