Foster Avery   Company   Store   Boy   Clothes   Clothing   Advertising   Celluloid   Pin Back Button   Contest   Prize   Premium   Pin   Badge   History   Historic   New England   Portland   Maine   Bridgeport   Connecticut
The picture below shows a larger front and back view of this Old Foster Avery Company Boys' Clothing Advertising Celluloid Pin Back Button. The pinback button is not dated and the year that it was made is unknown. This numbered pin may have been from a contest of some kind. The Foster-Avery Co. was an early chain of men's furnishings stores located in the Northeastern United States. The flagship store was started by Foster - Besse & Company in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1877. By 1907 there were 27 stores in the New England states. It is imprinted in dark blue or black on a white background. There is a paper insert in the back. It is marked on the two sides as follows:

FOSTER - AVERY CO.
BOYS' CLOTHING
2391

THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO.
BUTTONS, BADGES, NOVELTIES AND SIGNS
NEWARK, N.J.

The pin back button measures 7/8'' wide. It appears to be in excellent condition as pictured.
