We also do not know how it was oringinally used or acquired. It is a large medal with a chain and on the back is a neck tie type bar clip. It appears to be made of brass with some painted accents. The medal has a crest with a knight in armor, horses, flags, and a thistle. It is marked as follows: THORNE'S
