Puppet   Marionette   Story Telling   Oriental   Nostalgic
The picture shows both sides of this Old Stick Or Shadow Puppet. I am really not familiar with these puppets or their origin. It appears to be from Japan, or China, but I see no markings. I know that these puppets were created to tell a story. This colorful puppet is pierced all over and has a very detailed edge as well. The material is flexible, but I am not sure what it is. The sicks or handles appear to be carved. There is one on each hand and one that is for the body. The one on the body is long and it is split to go up both sides. The stick that is on the body is broken on both sides midway up the body, however it is all there and probably could be easily repaired. Counting the stick on the body it measures 16-1/2" tall. Aside from the broken stick, it appears to be in excellent condition.
