Both photos have an elaborate stage background. One has paintings and the other has different cloth. Written in pencil on the back of the second photo is the following:|
With a little research it was found that there was a 1940s Broadway Musical named ''Panama Hattie'' that starred Ethel Merman:
The show opened on October 30, 1940 at the 46th Street Theatre and ran for 501 performances. It was directed by Edgar McGregor.

There was also a movie in 1954 named ''Panama Hattie'' that starred Ethel Merman, Art Carney, and Ray Middleton.
The firt photo has the bottom white space cropped. The second one measures 4-1/2'' x 3-1/4''. They are in excellent condition as pictured.
