The picture shows a view of this Old 8th Coast Artillery United States Army Enameled Sterling Medallion. This medal is believed to be from 8th Coast Artillery (Harbor Defense) of Fort Preble, or Portland, Maine. The charm is marked ''STERLING'' on the back with a manufacturer's name that is difficult to read. It has a pine tree and a star. It is enameled in red, white, and blue and is marked as follows:

8th COAST ARTILLERY
U.S. ARMY

This may be from the World War I era. The medallion measures 5/8'' x 1-1/4''. It is in excellent or better condition as pictured.
