| | | The picture shows a view of this Colorful Kurt Adler Smithsonian Collection Seahorse Carousel Ornament. The ornament is not dated but it is believed to be from the 1980s or early 1990s. The original Seahorse was carved at the C.W.F. Dare Company of Brooklyn, New York 1878 0 1900. According to one carousel authority, ''The Seahorse is one of the most outstamding folk art carvings in America''. The Seahorse is part of the Eleanor and Mable Van Alstyne Collection of American Folk Art. This Seahorse reminds us of childhood memories of the elaborate boardwalk carousels that used to dot the Jersey Shore. The carousel ornament comes in its packaging. It also comes with a gold string, a small card, and a listing of others in the series. We are not sure what material the brightly colored ornament is made from. The ornament measures about 6'' wide. It appears to be in mint condition and the packaging has some light shelf wear as pictured. |
