| | | The picture below shows a larger view of all (6) Old Methodist Rally Day Religious Flag Celluloid Pin Back Buttons in this lot. These pinback buttons are old. Five of the pins are identical. The top center one is similar but older and has a slightly different design. That one is believed to be from the late 1800s or early 1900s. It has a (16) or (17) star American flag and church flag with a cross. This older one was made by The Whitehead & Hoag Company of Newark, New Jersey. The older one is marked on the two sides as follows: BY THIS SIGN CONQUER RALLY DAY THE METHODIST BOOK CONCERN EATON & MAINS, PUB. AGTS. PUBLISHERS OF SUNDAY SCHOOL REQUISITES THE W. & H. CO. PATENTS JULY 17, '94, APR. 14, '96, JULY 21. '96 The other five are not dated and the year that they were made is unknown. The maker of these is also unknown. These colorful celluloid buttons picture a (47) star American flag and a church flag with a cross tied together with a gold rope. They each have a paper insert in the back. marked on the two sides as follows: BY THIS SIGN CONQUER RALLY DAY THE METHODIST BOOK CONCERN, EATON & MAINS, PUB. AGTS. PUBLISHERS OF SUNDAY SCHOOL REQUISITES. NEW YORK, BOSTON, PITTSBURG, DETROIT. All of these for one price! The pin back buttons each measure 7/8'' wide.
