The pictures below show a larger front and back view of this Old Framed Allen & Dexter Street Bangor Maine House Photograph. This photograph is not dated but it is old. The location or address of this old Victorian home is: 67 Allen Street on the corner of Dexter Street in Bangor, Maine. Doing some checking on Google Maps (gotta love Google Maps), we found that the front two sections of this home still exists, but not the back section or the barn. We most certainly hope that this old photograph finds it's way back home where it belongs again. It is difficult to see in the picture below, but by the back door there are three women in dresses and two children on the ground posing for the photo. There is a ''DEXTER ST.'' street sign and an old telephone pole in front of the home. There are flower gardens around the home and vines growing up the side of it. This photograph was acquired from an old estate with many more older photographs dating back as far as the Civil War to the early 1900s, including many tintypes, carte de visite (CDV), and cabinet cards. The people are not identified, however, the majority of photographs were of people who were probably related, and lived in Rochester, New Hampshire, and Bangor, Maine. We opened the frame up to clean the glass and found the name ''L. A. KENDALL'' on the back of the photograph. This may be either the Photographer's name or the owner's name way back then. On the back is an old Christmas gift sticker applied with a Santa Claus head and holly leaves with berries. Written on the tag it reads as follows: ''A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR'' MRS. W. I N THOMPSON FROM MOTHER The original frame is dark stained or black painted wood with a gold scroll design section on the inside. The photograph, with the frame measures 10-3/8'' x 8-1/4''. The photo appears to be in excellent condition as pictured. The frame and backing show age and wear, but it was kept all original. It also has the original twine string on the back and it is ready for hanging again. |
