The picture shows a view of this Colorful Old Unused Downtown St. Petersburg Florida Post Card. This postcard is not dated but it is believed to be from the 1920s. It has a divided back and the postage area is marked ''PLACE ONE CENT STAMP HERE - FIVE CENTS TO ANYWHERE IN U.S. VIA AIRMAIL''. The card pictures many people on green benches with early automobiles behind them. There are buildings and some have old advertising signs. A few of the old signs can be read such as ''RUTLAND BROTHERS'', ''PHILPITT'S VICTROLAS PIANOS'', ''POWER'', ''RESTAURANT'', and more. It is marked on the front and back as follows: ''OH, YOU GREEN BENCHERS,'' ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA ''THE SUNSHINE CITY'' Started a scant 25 years ago, St. Petersburg's Green Benches, which line the sidewalks of the street, now have international fame. There are 5000 benches on the streets with a seating capacity of 25,000, and, on any sunshiney winter afternoon, one may find them filled with winter visitors enjoying spring like weather. MADE IN U.S.A. BY E. C. KROPP CO., MILWAUKEE The postcard measures about 5-9/16'' x 3-9/16''. It appears to be in excellent unused condition with some age spotting on the edge as pictured. |
